Business Visa Process
Most business skills entrants will enter Australia initially on a provisional (temporary) visa for 4 years.
After satisfactory evidence of a specified level of business or investment activity, they may apply for permanent residence.
Therefore, a business visa applicant seeking Australian permanent residence will generally need to go through a "probation" period (provisional visa) initially, and upon being eligible for a permanent visa, he/she may apply for residency (permanent visa).
There is one exception however. Where an applicant has been identified to be a "high calibre" business professional, he/she may apply directly for a permanent residence visa without going through "probation". This visa is the "Business Talent" visa, and requires sponsorship from a State/Territory (S/T) government body.
For this discussion, we shall describe the 2 stage process as this would generally apply to the majority of applicants.
Two "older" permanent residence Business visas called Established Business in Australia (EBA) and Regional Established Business in Australia (REBA) are available for business professionals who have already established a business in Australia. Both of these visas require the applicant to undergo a points test.
